Go Island hopping and Sunbathing In the Canary Islands

Canary Islands

With a choice of more than five beautiful islands to choose from the Canary Islands are a sun-seekers dream comes through. It is best-known for its beaches, steep volcano landscape on most of the islands, which makes them ideal for hiking/walking. Enjoy its rustic, hearty and delightful cuisine, shaped by a rich culture.

If you are someone who likes solitude and walking off the beaten track, the canaries offer visitors the freedom and flexibility to seek and find its hidden gems.

Depending on your taste in beach activity you will have to island hop to get the best the islands have to offer. If you are looking for some where that does not suit a particular activity then Gran Canaria’s Maspalomas Beach is the place to be, it is beautiful, touristy yet large enough to rarely seem crowded.

Best for water-sports is Fuerteventura’s Sotavento Beach for windsurfers and Lanzarote’s Caleta de Famara, the self-proclaimed ‘Hawaii of Europe’.

For swimming head to Gran Canaria, clinging to the edge of the Canaries’ largest city, Las Palmas is Las Canteras Beach. At low tide it’s an ideal place for snorkelling, swimming or sunbathing. Talking about sunbathing Punta de Papagayo is great as well with the option to go nude.

If you are not put off by black sand then Gran Canaria’s GuIgui Beach is best for those who need space and tranquillity, it’s a five-hour hike or quicker by boat; it has no amenities.
