5 Last Minute Autumn Half-Term Getaways

Do you want to get away for the autumn half-term school break? we have found a bunch of activities that you might by interested in; they include farm visit, water sports, history and culture, high adrenaline adventure activities and glamour for those who want to just hangout.

Crete

The children friendly Daios Cove Luxury Resort in Crete, is a chic 300 rooms complex, including 70 suites and 39 Villas, saltwater plunge pools, a spa and huge choice of activities for your water babies. Children over eight can learn to dive; ten-year olds can try laser sailing and the over-16s can learn to wind-surf. The little ones, four-plus, can board a banana boat. The hotel also offers a kids buffet and a babysitting service.

St. Tropez

Teenage fans of X Factor will think you're the best parents ever when you whisk them off to St Tropex to live an X Factor lifestyle at The Amarante Golf Plaza, the same hotel where X Factor judge Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and her group stayed for the auditions. Perched on the bay of Saint Tropez, it has two swimming pools, a spa, tennis courts and a gym. St. Tropez is famous for its glamorous visitors but when autumn sets in, it takes on a laid-back charm.  The hotel will help organise hiking tours, the Senitier du Littoral coastal path is dramatic this time of year.

Iceland

Your bigger kids will love the adrenalin of Quad biking across Iceland. As the sun sets over southern Iceland, they jump on a bike or dog sled for those under six-years old and zip across glaciers on a hunt for the elusive northern lights.  Part of your stay is a visit to Gullfoss waterfall and a stop in the geothermal Haukadalur valley, a field of roaring geysers. It’s operated by Black Tomato, which also include extras such as helicopter tour over the lunar landscapes of the Thingvellir National Park and snorkelling in the Silfra fissure, a crack between the tectonic plates of Eurasia and North America.

Malta and Gozo

Get up and close to wild life in Malta and Gozo, where your kids can pretend to be shepherds. You will travel to the harbour of Xlendi and Xaghra village, home of Calypso's Cave from teh legend of The Odyssey. The highlight of the trip is visit to the Ager Foundation farm, which lets guests experience life as a shephered by feeding and milking the sheep. Back on the mainland of Malta, you can horse-ride along the Golden Bay, take a trip to Comino Island wildlife sanctuary and visit the Splash and Fun Water Park.

Italy and Ischia

See another side of Italy on the island of Ischia, a volcanic outcrop in the Bay of Naples. Your adventure begins with a boat journey to the main town of Ischia Porto and continues with an exploration of the castle, a site that has been occupied since 474BC. It is filled with frescoed catacombs, an eerie prison, courtyards and a beautiful tower garden. There are four apartments available, each decorated with white walls and terracotta tiles.

Other Half-term holiday ideas include: surfing in northern Morocco, in October the temperature is about 25C. The Paradis Plage offers surfing classes for the young ones and while they are splashing, parents can get bendy in their ocean facing yoga studio. Horse riding in the Altiplano de Granada in northeast Granada, southern Spain. The area is a perfect spot for a mixture of activities for all ages. This plateau of flatlands is surrounded by natural parks, reservoirs and Hobbit-like cave houses excavated from the rock by farmworkers in the 19th century. You can explore the area on horseback, kayak, mountain biking, canyoning, abseiling, jumping and climbing down rocks.
