If you're looking for theme park action, you'll be spoilt for choice. Walt Disney World Resort Florida takes you from Mickey Mouse meet and greets to African safaris, letting you relive your favourite movies at Disney's Hollywood Studios and sending you slipping and sliding down water slides at Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park and Disney's Blizzard Beach Water Park.

Then there is Universal Orlando Resort, with rides that will transport you through an E.T. adventure to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter Explore Harry Potter's Diagon Alley, meet Spider-Man and Captain America at Marvel Superhero Island, or combine thrilling water rides and relaxing moments at Universal's Volcano Bay. Then head to LEGOLAND Florida, where you can book a room at the special LEGO-themed LEGOLAND Beach Retreat resort.

Then there is Florida's natural playground, which is as thrilling as any theme park. Head south to the Everglades National Park to spot the beady eyes of alligator's emerging just above the water's surface, or northwest to Crystal River, to swim alongside majestic manatees.  Fort Myers and Sanibel are also home to the JN Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge, where you can explore bike trails and keep an eye out for racoons, otters and amazing birdlife.

No family holiday to Florida is complete without hitting the beach. On Florida's Gulf Coast, St. Pete and Clearwater Beach are packed with family-friendly attractions. You can strap on a Jetlev jet pack to power you out of the water and fly, explore the coastline by kayak or visit Clearwater Marine Aquarium, home to Winter the Dolphin from the Dolphin Tale movies. Just north of Clearwater Beach, head to Crystal River and you can enjoy a snorkelling adventure to swim alongside Florida's peaceful sea cows, the huge ten-foot-long manatees that populate the waters.

In Sarasota, tear yourself away from the 40 miles of idyllic beaches for an afternoon to explore the Ringing Circus museum - it is where circus magnate John Ringling used to live in winter and has great hands-on activities for kids, such as ROAR, The Ringling's family story-time programme. Then take a Sea life Encounter cruise to spot dolphins and take marine life samples to study everything from crabs to tiny seahorses.

On the Atlantic coast, the beaches of Jacksonville host surf camps so children can learn to ride the waves, or you can join a fun-filled pirate cruise along the Intracoastal Waterway at Fort Lauderdale. Alternatively, head to the nearby Big Cypress Reservation to meet the Seminole Tribe, take guided nature walks and even spend the night in a traditional chickee hut.

Glamorous Miami is great for families, too, with open-air movies at SoundScape Park, giraffe-feeding at Zoo Miami and jungle zip lines and lemur encounters at Jungle Island. Then there are the amazing beaches, which come with picnic spots, cycle trails, beach volleyball and a whole host of water sports.

Then head to Tampa for the ultimate American sports experience. Whether you are catching a Tampa Bay Rays baseball game or watching your first American football game with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, you're sure to feel like you're in an American movie.
